Akilah Carter Francique

Dr. Akilah Carter-Francique, Dean of Education, Health, and Human Services at Benedict College, brings to 20 years of experience in higher education, an extensive research background and a strong vision for leadership in the field of education. Dr. Carter-Francique formerly served as the Executive Director for the Institute for the Study of Sport, Society and Social Change at San José State University (SJSU). During her three years, she promoted conversations on equity, diversity, inclusion in sport and society and provided educational forums with webinars, conferences, and collaborations events and activities with thought leaders, scholars, students, and community members. Carter-Francique also served as an Associate Professor in the Department of African American Studies where she supported course development inclusive of SJSU’s Ethnic Studies Collaborative and its General Education curriculum.
