TOLERANCE SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION Eligibility for $750 Tolerance Scholarship. Requirements to enter the competition for and receive the Tolerance Scholarship award of $750 (may be taxable). In order to be eligible for the Tolerance Scholarship, the essayist must: (1) Be an undergraduate or graduate student of the host institution where the Dialogues will be held or another institution of higher education within a 100 mile radius of the host institution. (2) Submit a 500-word essay on the meaning of tolerance to them, in their own words. (3) All entries should be prepared for this contest and not previously published. If the essay is accepted for publication after submission to the essay competition, but before a decision is reached by the Essay Committee, the student must inform the committee immediately. (4) Entrants may seek general feedback on their draft essays from professors, colleagues, and the like. An essay submitted to the competition, however, must be entirely the entrant’s own work product and may not be written or edited by any other person. The author must formulate their own statement of the meaning of tolerance to them, and write and revise the essay. (5) Only one essay may be submitted by each entrant, and no co-authored essays will be accepted. (6) Agree that if he or she wins, that he or she shall attend the Dialogues as a panelist to present his or her idea on the meaning of tolerance. (7) Agree to and execute this Participation Agreement. (8) Assign to the Tolerance Means Dialogues Series all rights, title and interest in the essay submitted. It is the policy of the Tolerance Means Dialogue to release all assigned rights in all but the essays that win the Tolerance Scholarship. (9) The deadline will be two weeks prior to the scheduled Dialogue. (10) Decision of the judge(s) to be final. Judging. Entries will be judged based on the following criteria: clarity of ideas, the emotional intelligence and life wisdom brought to the question, and the concise statement of thesis in the closing Tweet encapsulating what #ToleranceMeans to them. The Dialogue team for a given Dialogue (One or both Dialogue Catalysts and/or Moderator) will select the winning entrants. Award. $750 Tolerance Scholarship (may be taxable) and speaking role at Dialogue. One Scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student, one to a graduate student. Winners will be contacted by cell phone and email. Funds will be sent to the winning essayists following the presentation at the Dialogue. *** Participation Agreement This Participation Agreement is entered into by and between the Tolerance Means Dialogues Series [Dialogues] and the winning essayist who receives a Tolerance Scholarship.
